Gov. Schwarzenegger Issues Proclamation for Centennial Celebration of the NAACP

Gov. Schwarzenegger issued the following proclamation declaring February 12, 2009, as Centennial Celebration of the NAACP day.

PROCLAMATION

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has established an outstanding legacy as our nation’s oldest civil rights organization.  Founded in 1909 by a group of people who were concerned about ensuring equality for all Americans, this organization continues today to strive for justice for all.

Since its beginning, the NAACP has experienced tremendous growth.  Through its members, ranging from national leaders and corporate partners to grassroots volunteers, it has built a network that works for tolerance and helps those in need.  Its belief that all men and women are created equal has motivated members to make contributions that improve the lives of many.

No other group has done more for equal opportunity than the NAACP, and it has constantly encouraged our nation to be the best it can be.  I urge all Californians to join with me in celebrating the NAACP’s centennial.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim February 12, 2009, as the “Centennial Celebration of the NAACP.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 11th day of February 2009.
